After the many crisp and fresh summer salads this year, I will also contribute a suitable dressing: a tasty, tasty ranch dressing with fresh herbs.
Ranch dressing – ingredients and recipe
The ranch dressing comes – as the name might suggest – from the United States. There it is one of the fixed culinary standards. But this American salad dressing is also enjoying increasing popularity in our longitudes.
Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as “the” ranch dressing. Because the term includes a number of different variations.
You can therefore also be a little creative with the ingredients. It is only important that you consider the basic ingredients of the salad dressing:
- Yogurt and/or buttermilk
- mayonnaise
- Onions
- garlic
- Herbs (e.g. parsley, chives, etc.)
Vary your own dressing according to your preferences
Whether you use yogurt or buttermilk is up to your own taste and preferences.
In my recipe variation, I clearly opted for buttermilk, which, together with the sour cream (sour cream) and mayonnaise, forms the basis of my ranch dressing.
The salad sauce tastes particularly good with fresh ingredients
And you can also be a bit flexible with the other ingredients. I like to use fresh ingredients whenever possible. Fresh garlic and fresh herbs have been used in my recipe.
Of course, it also works with garlic powder and dried herbs – although I think that the fresh ingredients should be given priority for this dressing.
Ranch dressing as a dip
The spicy dressing also cuts a fine figure as a dip. It goes great with salty snacks like potato chips or tortilla chips. It is also perfect for raw vegetables. Try it with vegetable sticks – e.g. carrots, cucumber, kohlrabi, and the like. It tastes real, really delicious!
